Glow Yoga Brand Suite
Namasté! Our friends, Glow Yoga, have been hard at work relocating to a beautiful new studio in Gulf Shores and along with the beginning of that exciting new chapter, they wanted to freshen up the overall look and feel of their brand!
Yoga has always appealed to me but for some reason I’ve never stepped foot in a studio. During this design process, the Glow team wanted us to get a hands-on experience and experience their studio from our perspective. Nic and I decided to try out regenerative yoga in a “sound therapy” class.
Guys. I’m not lying when I tell you that I’ve thought about this class at least once a week since trying it out!
We knew we were headed for comfort and relaxation but when we walked into the dim room, we were greeted by about 10 other yogis who were wrapped in blankets and laying on their backs on the floor. The three instructors had large singing bowls in front of them on the floor and a small Indian organ called a harmonium. In the corner was a cellist player, which I was most excited for! We grabbed our bolsters… these long, firm pillows which were new to me but so helpful, some colorful woven blankets and laid down our mats! For the next 90 minutes, we were in total zen. All of the movements were basic stretches on the floor with calm music being created and transportive melodies and harmonies being sung. The whole vibe washed over us and we glided out of there feeling like we had just left a world-class massage. Seriously.
From this experience, I got to see the heart and soul Jennifer has for yoga and her business, which really helped put all of the pieces together for us of what she was needing. She was inspired by the sun and the moon and what they represent. We learned that even the direction the moon faces means different things (we went with a waning crescent, in case you’re wondering, which has lunar energy and signifies surrender).
We both liked the idea of minimalism and a monoline-style logo. Her previous brand had a script font and a teal color that was hard to work with when it came to printing so we wanted to change it up a bit with brighter and bolder colors representing this new direction of day, night and nature (they grow herbs and veggies and donate them locally to those in need, y’all – amazing).
One of the branding requests was to have a few secondary logo options with the sun and moon separately to brand the different classes that happen only during the day or night.
The Inspiration
The inspiration for this brand really was nature and growth not only from an environmental standpoint but also from a personal and small business standpoint as well. We wanted the colors to be bold but also be true to nature.
The Logo Design
After seeing her inspiration and deciding on a color palette, we provided a few logo styles to review. Glow was leaning towards a monoline icon-style logo so we crafted a few options – check them out below!
The Brand
We ultimately decided on the third option with a bolder font and more minimalist icon. We really wanted to portray balance, the essence of yoga, with each part of the branding we created. This logo was easy to read but was also accentuated by the negative space inside the sun.
For the typography we chose two fonts in the Dunbar typeface family – Dunbar Low Bold for headers and Dunbar Low Light for copy – as well as Romanthica for a script option that would be great for boutique retail items like t-shirts or hats.
Then, the Glow team sent us a fun, abstract, one-line greenery image that inspired us to draw our own, which would be able to be used as a pattern for the brand as an accent on retail items or even as a wallpaper design! The width of the whimsical plants complements the icon in the logo.
And that’s it! Check out the full brand suite below:
